“The trumpeters and musicians joined in unison to give praise and thanks to the LORD. Accompanied by trumpets, cymbals, and other instruments, the singers raised their voices in praise to the LORD and sang: ‘He is good; his love endures forever.’” -2 Chronicles 5:13
Thanksgiving Day Mass has always been one of my favorite liturgical celebrations — I think mainly because those gathered are there with hearts full of gratitude, not in response to some religious obligation but in response to the great love our God has shown to them. Knowing we are beloved children of a compassionate and merciful God, we cannot help but sing of the goodness of God. We give thanks for countless blessings and gifts of grace and for the opportunity to encounter God through our encounters with one another.
In a particular way, I am grateful for the calling to ministry which has enriched my own faith, for the opportunity to walk this journey of faith with a vibrant community of believers, and for the knowledge that the music we offer makes a difference for people even if I don’t always know how or why.
Wishing you and yours a Happy Thanksgiving!
